Car Hire Help Needed Please

Hi we are heading to Florida next March and I am currently looking into car hire. Next year we fly into Tampa and would be looking to collect our car from there. Last year we got into a bit of a mess with our car hire, we had booked our holiday through our local travel agent and when we collected our car, our suit cases wouldn't fit into the boot or the inside of the car. We were given about 3 different cars and eventually got one that suited and it was a Kia Sorrento. Boot was perfect, however, we were advised there was no extra charge and on delivering the car back to the airport were stung with a massive bill, we had to pay it but got our money back - wasn't a great way to end a fab holiday. Soooooo I am trying to work out the best car hire company to go to with the best prices and also can anyone tell me what I should be looking for - is it an SUV or a 7 seater? We don't need a 7 seater as there are only 4 of us, but I don't want to end up getting our car and the same thing happens again. Thanks for reading and I hope someone can help.

We get a full size suv 7 seater but only use first 2 rows.
Chevy Tahoe ... Loads of room for all 4 of us! Plus the boot size is huge!
