Virgin flights release day and miles

Just been keeping an eye on flight prices on day of release outbound.

Never seems to be reward seats in economy until 2 or 3rd day passes

The premium or upper class is available on release day

Is that the normal trend

I have been tracking reward seats for a month or so now and to be honest there seems no real logical way in which they release them. My best advice if you want to secure seats is to be quick and possibly sign up for Expert Flyer and set up flight alerts. I wanted return flights on 31.08.21 in PE to MAN and by the time I got through yesterday morning they were gone. I am now on hold to try and book 01.09.21.

The thing I have noticed with PE and Upper is that they come out on release day but then the next day they are either all gone or removed from sale. It does seem like Economy release is more sporadic and there are not many options.

I should point out these are all on MAN flights, I do not know what availability is like in other airports.

They can be and are released on any day but are released around 0200 and it is known many stay up (or get up early) to snatch them

This gets harder when a companions flights are involved

Could you book the outward only using miles at 02:00 then when the returns are release ring up the flying club to book the return and use the companion and adjust the outbound flight

Did you manage to get your return PE flights on the 1st? As I can see they have them in PE and Upper.

OP there seems to be loads of Eco out bounds fir 2nd half of August. I’m surprised how many there are to be honest.

I managed to get upper returns from Manchester last week, which are still available.

Yes I did thank you, took quite a bit of messing as I was using two companion seats and half an open ticket but managed in the end.

Have managed to get through to virgin this morning, 1 hour wait.

I was asking kirsty if I could book my outward flights X 2 on the day of release using miles then when the returns become available 2 weeks later ring up and add the companion flight and the return flight

I was informed I could book the flights on the outward journey using miles on the website.
Then when the returns become available give virgin a call and they will amend and refund part of the outward cost using part of the companion reward
Then they will add the return flights using the the companion and additional cost
But... I was told I would need to book the 2 outwards as 2 seperate bookings as it wouldn't be possible to modify a single booking with 2 people on it using the companion when I rang to book the returns

Most of the miles are in my name can you still book a flight with your miles for someone else?

Think I may use this as plan B if I try ringing on the day of release and can get through

I would think it’s fine to book using your miles for somebody else. Maybe do that one first before you do your own?
