Portland and Maine holiday?

We have this idea of going to Maine and Portland USA states for a holiday. Mainly due to Stephen King and TV shows filmed in Maine.

Has anyone been to this parts of the states and what is there to see?
Also any good towns to stay in.

Any help would be great.

I’ve been to Portland and toured around that area, as well as Vermont etc. I’m
Also a Stephen King fan and I can honestly say Portland is the strangest place in the world I’ve ever been and I can understand where he gets his inspiration from! I can’t put my finger on exactly why Portland was so weird, although we did get ‘covertly’ followed by someone who wasn’t menacing but it was very odd! There was just something underlying there, definitely worth going though as all his books make sense.
Vermont and the mountains are beautiful.

We also visited Boston and Bangor on the road trip.

I've been many times as I have family that live there, cant say I'm crazy about Portland itself ,but maine and new Hampshire are gorgeous,
North Conway is good to visit theres a scenic railway and some quaint little shops,
Mount washington
Storyland in Glen, new Hampshire if you have little kids
Kenny bunk port
Freeport for shopping
Bar harbour and booth bay harbour
Then have a few days in boston and visit Salem.
One thing to consider is time of year you go, most tourist attractions open on memorial weekend and close labour day so check on that.
Winter can be harsh and summer can be really hot , seeing the trees in the fall is stunning
Hope that helps

We stayed in Freeport for a couple of days
Went to wolfs neck state park and drove through Portland
Maine was absolutely beautiful and it had snowed.
Combined with a couple of days in Boston and an hour or so in Salem
The drive up to Wolfs neck park has some stunning houses and scenery
It was very cold but the sun was out and it was bright and the snow was sparkling and we loved it .

We did a new england cruise, and particularly loved Bar Harbor, such a quaint place, and the best lobster roll at the Side Street Cafe. Would love to go back!

I have really fond memories of Maine - I worked at a summer camp there back in the day. The lakes are stunning as are those small little towns. I would love to go back!
