French Transport Strikes
Hi,
Is anyone else worrying about this/ or affected? I'm going from 14th -16th so was hoping I would avoid them. However I've just seen that a further strike is now planned on the 16th.

Instead of the RER we plan on using uber. We have already booked RS transport for our transfers.

I’ve read that the strikes start tomorrow (5th December) and so far there is no end date. Apparently the last time a strike on this level happened in France was 1995 when it went on for three weeks.
We travel on the 16th also. Flying with EasyJet. Now I understand there’s a chance this strike could still be taking place then, and even if not there’s a chance flights will be affected due to a backlog if strikes go on for more than a few days. Worried, we have told our daughter about the trip and all of us have been looking forward to it after a tough year. I think it might be wise to work on a plan B. If flights are cancelled, is there any other way to get there? If we drive I’m assuming ferries/eurotunnel/ports will be affected anyway? |

There is no planned impact to ferries or the eurotunnel.

Ok, so if they haven’t fixed things by the 16th and our flights are affected we can drive via the tunnel!? Suppose I best start to work out what we will need should we have to drive (light reflectors etc)

I wasn't worried... now I am! We travel Eurostar on morning of 15th (to Paris then taking RER). I have no idea what our plan B would look like 🤷😖

I’m worried. We don’t go until 27th Dec but am watching with a sense of dread.
It would just top our year off. We had to cancel our Disney cruise at Easter when my Dad died suddenly 4 days before we were due to leave. We are going to DLP with Mam and the in-laws as something to look forward to after what we expect will be a tough first Christmas without Dad. We are in Newcastle and would need 2 cars as 7 of us so not likely we can switch to driving. I don’t think I could face telling my daughter we’ve had to cancel our second Disney holiday of the year, and as everything is booked separately cancelling/getting refunds could be difficult so it would be fingers crossed for insurance. Hope they sort themselves out sooner rather than later and everyone gets their holiday. |

So sorry to hear of the loss of your Dad.
I wonder if driving really is an option anyway because surely the euro tunnel and ferries will be rammed with everyone who has the same idea? Fingers crossed for us all it doesn’t last past the 10th

We are flying. I don’t want to drive as I don’t fully trust my car to get us there and back! It’s just my young son and I travelling and I don’t fancy being stranded on a French motorway!
Normally I’d quite happily spend some extra time in Disney, but I need to get back for work and my dog.
