There are well documented delays with probate online - so pleased you happened to circumvent them however most of us mortals can’t do that and are still waiting circa 10 months

Our late neighbour’s family are still waiting for probate to go through, our neighbour passed last May.

My MIL passed away some time ago and her probate took ages, we had bills to pay and very stressful. She left a will but was complicated by property and land.

I’m currently in the process of completing probate for my Nan. She had a will, I’ve completed all the online stuff which was straightforward but haven’t submitted it yet as no matter what email address I put in it won’t email the other executor to complete the declaration.

Need to phone them tomorrow.
I hope it goes through fairly quickly but will expect the worst.

When there is a will, I’m sure probate is just about making sure you are not getting out of paying tax!

When my father died we used a solicitor, as it was quite complicated and I wasn't up to it tbh. She told us probate times really varied and were much longer if property was involved, so I assume those who've been able to complete more quickly have not had property included in the estate? I think when we applied 3 years ago it was a couple of months for no property and 10 months with. It was checking property valuations that held things up.

Dave did his Dad's in 2016, we can't remember how long it took but he did go to the probate office in London, I'm wondering if it's different time scales for different areas.

Thank you

I knew I was right (unfortunately i wish it was simpler and quicker but that’s the truth! )

We had property to sell, I applied for probate myself which was pretty easy and was back within the 12 weeks that they said. I definitely wouldn’t pay a solicitor to do it.

This was December just gone.

There isn’t really any such thing as a “current” processing time for probate. Every grant application is different, some are obviously more complicated than others. 2 applications submitted at exactly the same time can take vastly different amounts of time to complete.

If the estate is straightforward, the application is correctly and fully completed, and you don’t have any issues with HMRC, there’s no reason that the grant can’t be extracted within a relatively short timeframe.

I used the website too. My mums estate was simple, no property, a couple of bank accounts and an investment. It took 4 months. There was a couple of short delays with website glitches. I had a month wrangling with a solicitor who has been named as an executor along with myself and my brother. I had to pay him to renounce ( tip don't have a solicitor as an executor). I was dreading the probate process but it was relatively simple.

I just checked and Dave's dad's probate was just short of 3 months. This did not include the time he waited for an appointment. This was with a Will and property.
