Question American Express Travellers Cheque Card

American Express are now doing a card that you can buy instead of travellers cheques, and then use in stores etc when you are away on hols instead of using cash or the paper travellers cheques, and i was just wondering if anyone has used this, and if it is widely received in Orlando? They currently have an offer where if you load the card with $700, they will give you an extra $50. Sounds like a good deal to me, but i'd just like to know if stores/restuarants in Orlando are accepting it? Thanks!

Bought one a couple of weeks ago from Thompson where you only have to load up $500 to get the $50. I am waiting for some DIBB users to use it this year before loading any more money onto it.

I used the new travellers cheque card from American Express in Orlando over the last two weeks. Just about everywhere accepts the card so it was fine. My only complaint was that it was difficult to check the balance on the card. None of the ATM's would let me and I had no access to the Internet.

Nellie - Thanks for your input, that's exactly what i wanted to hear! *lol* Well except for the checking balance part, but i guess i'll just have to keep reciepts so i can keep track that way. I'll probably also take my laptop on hols with me, i'm guessing you check on the American Express website how much you have left?

chrisw - Good to see you here!

I just checked the website and yes, you can draw money out against it at ATMs that display the AMEX sign. It looks like a really good product, saves all the hassle of writing out travellers cheques and keeping track of the numbers etc. And like with travellers cheques, if it gets lost or stolen, Amex will replace it with 24 hours. I think i'm going to get mine when i get paid this month.
