I think the poster is a bit insulting if I'm honest - id hate to see something ike that at my workplace - I think it would make me feel that maybe you feel that way about ME as a member of your staff - that definitely wouldn't inspire me to indulge in more team work.

And I think you are doing too much - it feels like you are trying to bribe the staff with gifts to do their jobs?
dont get me wrong - its a really lovely thing to do but all the notes along with the muffins etc is just too over the top.

If you are unhappy with how your staff are behaving or working then you need to TELL them - the notes etc are quite a passive aggressive way of dealing with things.

Id much rather my boss came out and said "i want you to do this this and this and THIS is the behaviour I will/won't accept"

For example our BIG boss came in last year and said to the 3 DCs in the office "we need to talk about you 3 going on the night duty DC rota" (none of us had done nights for years!) "OK" we all replied and off she flounced...
No more than 5 minutes later my boss came into the office and said "I need all 3 of you to email the duty department with your night duty dates"!
Clearly this was a decision that had not been made in the intervening 5 minutes...

We totally lost all respect for the BIG boss - too chicken to tell her staff herself what she expected...
We have had meetings, briefings and supervisions mentioning over and over again what we expect from them, this has also lead to situations of being a bully (almost) and this in my opinion is what is wrong. We have to be careful what and how we say things.

All I asked for was some advice on something a little different in a staff meeting on how to pull a team together, not condoning on what we already do !

Im sorry - it wasn't meant to be harsh.

If staff aren't doing what they are expected is there a process in place to issue an action plan?

You seem like a really generous and genuine person - and id love muffins weekly - but i dont think being given a muffin will give the kind of inspiration to the kind of people I think you are talking about.
The people that will be inspired/motivated are the same people who will do the job without reward - sometimes nothing will inspire those who actually dont give a poop!

There are those that turn up, do the job and go home because its a pay cheque and there are those that really enjoy what they do and the pay cheque is almost a bonus.

The unfortunate thing is that you'll never be able to change those people but they need to understand that their behaviour - ie negativity and bitching - isn't acceptable and that being told that isn't bullying - its creating a better work environment for everyone.

Good luck with whatever you decide xx

I think you are setting yourself unrealistic goals. In a team this size there will be some who love this sort of thing and others who loathe it, so it’s a no win situation to begin with.

The only thing everyone can agree on is the gift of time, so if it’s within your authority. Finish ten minutes early and everybody leaves happy. Finish five minutes late and the opposite happens.

Where my SIL used to work they did a "secret fairy" month. Like a secret santa everybody had to pick out a name and for the time period they had to do considerate things for their person at least once a week without getting found out. Management gave them each £2 to spend. So somebody may find that their "fairy" had left them a cake or a chocolate bar or some other gift or had done a small job for them or sent them a poem/ written a compliment about them etc. At the end of the period they each had to figure out who their fairy was. She said that this was really enjoyed by the staff and did help with bonding etc. It may work in a nursery...

How about using some of the fun and team building skills to do something linked to work. Not explaining it very well but maybe set up two or three teams to produce an activity to do in nursery and then each team has to do one of the other activities with the children.

truthfully & very much imo

you are on a hiding to nothing with these sort of days, some folk lap it up but a lot hate any idea of enforced 'fun' things to do at work

a job is just that and no amount of team building games will make it any better imo

a couple of drinks, a meal and a evening chatting about anything other than work will bring your troops closer together as they get to know their colleagues outside of work...
