The company I work for is using the furloughed and we have been told we are not allowed to do another job. We can do volunteer work but not a paying job. If we are found to have another job then we will lose any pay which we have received.

That seems fair as the 80% is a form of benefit which is paid by the government so people can still pay their bills. I imagine there will be some people claiming their 80% then trying to get a temporary full time job so getting double bubble.

This might be an unpopular opinion and not what you want to here but I think you are asking the wrong question.
Is it really right to take advantage of a scheme to help people get through such a time to effectively be paid twice? I can see why someone like scaramouche would need both to pay the bills but if your son doesn’t need the money to survive I’m be advising him to tell his permanent employer not to apply for him as he has a temporary job.

Our hourly paid staff are not allowed to accept paid work elsewhere during hours they would normally work for the company.
I take this to mean that they could take a paid job during hours they wouldn’t normally work. Doesn’t concern me as i’m salaried so not allowed to,but I’m not sure they would necessarily be getting paid twice, some people may just need to make the 20% up in order to make ends meet. Tracy x

It is down to the company putting the employee on furlough.
If they agree then yes you can. I guess the main factor would be notice period on new job Vs notice they will give to bring you back on line. |
