Best time to go between A levels and University
If we don’t get to go this year I would like to re-arrange it for next year ( we have booked diy).
My eldest daughter would be doing her A levels next year, and hopefully going to University in the September. So for those who have done it, been in similar situation when would be the best time to go away in the summer months. |

We’re in that position this year as DS was meant to be doing his A levels and going to uni in September. We settled on going as soon as DD breaks up from school, so we’re back before A level results day in case he needed to go through clearing, and as we’re not sure what else would need to be sorted before he goes.
Obviously it’s all up in the air now, no A levels and possibly having our trip cancelled, but that was how we worked it out. |

As someone who works at a University please don't go after the A Level results -there is so much to do, sign and pay for!

We went on my DS' 18th birthday in the first week of July.
There is a contingency day where exams may be moved to in an emergency, it changes every year but is usually the last Wednesday in June. Definitely don't go around A level results time, too much stuff to sort out (if all goes well and if it doesn't!)

My kids unis started end of September, so we went beginning of September just after the schools went back. That way they were home for their results and possible clearing, able to sort out accommodation and all paperwork needed to start uni, we had also bought and sorted most of the stuff they needed. We then got home after the holiday with a week or two to pack before they needed to leave. Parks were very quiet and it helped them not get to anxious about the move. DD was still able to communicate with future uni friends via social media from our holiday

We had our holiday that year at the end of July, that allowed time for DD's prom etc. and we were back in time for results / offers / confirming accommodation. After all that was done we managed a last minute bonus holiday at the end of August, but I wouldn't have risked booking that in advance, too much to do.

Thanks for the replies, so it looks like we are better going as soon as schools break up in July

Would bear in mind that school terms may be more fluid for a year or 2 in order to play catch up when this is over-enough to be deemed "normal"
