I have two rentees for my points through David. I reached out to David asking him to contact the rentees and check if they were ok with their Aug and Sept bookings. David came back to me and quickly contacted them for me. One family rescheduled the other said they would keep it. My points had to be banked by the end of May so it was imperative that they did it before then. As an owner my contract is with David not the rentee. I am allowed to contact the rentee myself but any changes have to go through David. I cannot cancel my booking with out permission from the rentee or I am liable for alternative accommodation. The OPs owner will have your email address so could contact you if they think of it. If the resort is still shut in September then I will lose my 30% but keep the other money and my points expire. If DVC extend my points then I can rerent them for someone else through David or reschedule within the time limits for the existing family then I would get my 30% or refund the money to Davids. So it is worth asking again, but as others have said he doesn't have to do anything until DVC cancels the booking unfortunately. You can hope that your owner reaches out to you or try emailing explaining your situation again.

What a nightmare renting through David's! I rented directly from the owner, and have reached out to him now that we're cancelling our September trip - we had 7 nights at the Boardwalk and 7 nights at Bay Lake booked for the first 2 weeks of September. He was very nice and accomodating - at my request, he's going to see if he can get these confirmed reservations sold/rebooked, if not he'll see if he can get the points rerented, and if not, he's fine with banking them for us so we can use them for a trip next year. I know not all owners may be this accomodating and understanding, but how annoying that David's don't seem to do much at all for you! Would definitely put me off using them in the future!

I would have thought someone could contact the owner so they can rebook, I’ve had a couple cancel and I would do my upmost to change or sell on for them as I’m sure most would. Good luck 🙂

Sorry I haven't replied sooner! I tried with my insurance again and they are just being completely useless and saying I need to go to the company. To be fair though I don't want a refund, I want to hopefully change the dates. I'm going to reach out Davids again and ask that I be put in touch with the owner directly.

As a last resort I paid through paypal so if I really have to I'll try see what I can do through there!

Thank you for everyone's advice, I will try and update this once I've got an outcome

If I’m reading your countdown correctly, your problem may be if the resorts are all open in September and flights are going, they may not accommodate changes as they can deliver on the original contract - it will be seen as you changing dates
Good luck - hope you get something sorted 😊

As per the announcement last night the DVC resorts are scheduled to be open so the contract would be fulfilled. Whether we can get there is a different question but is why this is a matter for insurance (assuming no pandemic or similar carve out) not David's or the owner (other than as a discretionary point of good will).

I think now resorts are open you are going to hope the owner will reschedule as a goodwill gesture.

Even if flights aren’t going or you have to quarantine on return, that’s not their fault.

Feel for you

Also in a similar position.DVC booked through David's for early August. We're not going and my insurance doesn't pay out once WHO declared a pandemic. Had the same fob off email from David's about a week ago. May try again now Disney have confirmed opening dates, and see if they will contact the owner

Just following up on this. I received an email from David's today stating they can contact the owner and see if they can reschedule, OR they will offer a travel credit! Whilst I don't have the details yet, they have said its valid for 3 years and based on the credit they have given to people that have been impacted over the closure period, that seems a great result to me, given they have no obligation to do so!

Did you chase them? I have a DVC booked for Aug but they have said they are dealing with emails month by month! We too are going in Aug. I thought DVC in WDW will be open wonder why he can offer a voucher now? I mean I could claim off insurance if we can’t get there(west coast) but things seem to be opening up and in 10 weeks will borders be open etc and if so I won’t be able to claim! The only issue with voucher what if he goes bust?(I hope not)
