tesco to try new queuing system
our local paper are saying Tesco is going to try out a new queuing system. you arrive at store and give your phone number to a staff member. you can then return to your car or if you arrive on foot stay in the queuing area. and when its your turn you will get a text message to return to store and go straight in. for those with no mobile phone they would have the buzzers that some restaurants have.
I think this is a great idea. if the queuing is going to continue which I think it will when winter arrives this would be fantastic what does everyone thing?

I think it’s a brilliant idea for colder weather or perhaps those that struggle to stand for longer periods. In the run up to Christmas that would be a godsend. Thankfully here the longest queue has been 5 mins as with so many people at home there are many more options for the times you can do your food shop.

this is something i suggested for nhs walk in centres over 5 years ago after i got ill by sitting waiting in one on new years day. why should i have to sit in a room full of sneezy people when i can just go wait outside in my car until its my turn and they message me
if only i'd been listened to back then |

With the weather turning today, it seems like a very sensible idea
(I go to Morrisons at 6am because I can't abide queuing!) |

By winter there would be no need for a queue. The country will not survive with social distancing happening for that long and the Governments of the world know this. Social distancing has always been intended as a short term restriction measured in weeks not months and months.

I think you might be wrong here on the part of social distancing.
I fully believe (like you) that lockdown will have to end soon or we will destroy the entire economy, but we can still implement social distancing in queues etc once people are allowed out. I think we will still have 2m distancing in shops etc way into Autumn and maybe even as a special addition to the hell that is Christmas shopping |
