Fitting a worktop - & framed kitchens

I have two kitchen questions, can anyone answer or give words of wisdom please?

1. Anyone have a 'framed' kitchen?
We have seen one we like, and it looks gorgeous, but am wondering if anyone who has one can tell me about any drawbacks or negatives of a framed style?

2. We will need someone to fit a worktop, including install sink and re-fit gas hob. There's about 7 metres of worktop and then another 3 metres in breakfast bar. Just roughly what would the cost be of such a job? (Kitchen fitted separately)

Thanks!

Oh and thanks a bundle to you ladies doing kitchen threads We WERE going to wait until the end of next year to do ours!

Those kitchens are looking just amazing You've inspired me!

LOL, sorry - also called in-frame kitchens.

The doors and drawers are set into a frame.

Like this - cookeandlewis/produ...-taupe-framed/
and this - homebase/en/static/...svenor-kitchen

Ahhhh ok. Sorry can't offer info. The only suggestion I would make is that say my kitchen, if I wanted I could change drawer fronts and doors, whereas that you wouldn't be able to - I'd end up divorced if I wanted to, but I mean if you decided on a change down the line.

I was a Carpenter so fitted our kitchen circa 5 years ago. However I dont have the 'jig' for doing the worktop joints albeit I do have a router.
It takes a lot of prep as you need a bench saw and trestle to hold the worktops as the ends are routed out via the jig before bolting them up.
I got a guy who was recommended to me and he charged me £250.
That was for 3 joints and I also got him to mitre and fit the pelmets under the wall cupboards. Oh and cut out for the sink and hob but I fitted those.
It took him and a mate about 3 hours to do so cheap I thought.

Thank you Mr Tom, your info is very useful
I realise my question was a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string?' type question.

Yes fitting a worktop iscomplicated with the mitre joints etc and not something an average DIYer can do, is it? Plus there's the Gas-Safe issue with the hob on top.

£250 five years ago sounds very reasonable to me and would be more than happy to pay todays equivalent!

Thanks!

I had a new kitchen last month. Like Mr Tom said they have to have a special jig to cut the Mason Mitre.

Mine took 2 guys 2 days to fit the worktops because they had to be perfect as the worktop went corner to corner so there was no room for error iykwim. They also cut out the sink and hob and fitted upstands.

I paid £540 in total and was very pleased with the result.

Oh that looks fabulous Kim, so neat!
And loving the upstands too!

We have those exact same joints in our existing worktops. (Shame to change them as they are immaculate but just the wrong colour )
Useful info on price. I expect as we have a gas hob to fit then ours might be more money to do.

Your kitchen in general is just lovely!
