Broken x
Hello all. Apologies for the long post.
A few weeks ago I posted about my terrible week, with my Aunt being diagnosed with throat, lung and liver cancer. Sadly she passed away the early hours of sunday morning. It all happened so quickly that I just cant process it. After the diagnoses it was said she was able to have chemotherapy, even though it wouldn't cure her it would prolong the time she had left, she was really positive about it all and the only thing that she struggled with was breathlessness. Friday just gone she had a meeting with the chemo team to discuss when it would all be starting and we were sat waiting to hear what was what. The phone rang at around 6pm, it was my uncle saying she had been admitted and they weren't sure she would last the night as her breathing had deteriorated. Queue a long restless night and waiting for other family members to make the journey down from up North. Saturday morning mum rang to say she had stabilised and we could go and visit. Nothing prepared me for when I walked into the room. She was hooked up to a morphine pump and had a breathing tube and the vibrant lady I knew her as was a shell, she couldn't speak and could barely move, just a wiggle of her fingers. Turned out one of her lungs had collapsed as what they had initially thought was a chest infection was the cancer and it was so aggressive she was given another 48 hours. Eventually she fell into a deep sleep and was no longer responding. She passed away with her husband and son at her side. My mum is numb, my children are struggling as My aunt was like another grandparent to them, always taking them to on day trips, letting them sleep over and generally spoiling them. My 12 year old DD has cried since we broke the news and my 9 year old DS has not cried but has become clingy and has taken it upon himself to make sure everyone is happy. I am on auto pilot trying to keep things as normal as possible but struggling with how quick it has all happened. I am sorry for the length but I need an outlet.
