US Extends Travel Ban to include UK and Ireland

The US is extending the Europe travel ban to the UK and Ireland from Monday night.

Originally the UK and Ireland was exempt from the Europe travel ban to the USA, however the ban has now been extended to include The UK and Ireland after the number of Coronavirus infections soared and the deaths almost doubled to 21 today.

The ban on travel to the US from UK and Ireland will begin at 00:00 Eastern time on Tuesday (04:00 GMT), US Vice-President Mike Pence has confirmed.

He said US citizens and US legal residents would still be able to return to the US from those countries after the ban came into effect.

They would be "funnelled through specific airports" and told to self-quarantine, he said.

I’m actually quite relieved. Can get a refund and make my own plans now instead of being hamstrung by a rebook at double the odds.

Will refunds happen or credit notes? Just wondering how companies will manage with such a lot of cash flowing back out of their coffers?

I think this ban will do the travel industry a lot of harm. Many jobs will be lost. I feel we need to carry on as best we can and attempt to reduce illness by good hygiene.

Will it be travel insurance or travel company that refund? My travel insurance with nationwide states it has to be advice from FCO before I can cancel.
I’ve actually booked a package with netflights (hotel and flights) usually DIY! Also I booked on credit card if that helps any, I’m not sure. I won’t be able to go any other time as work won’t be able to accommodate another 2 week holiday in the rota😞

We’re here til a week on Wednesday. Anyone know how we will get home. Virgin can’t get everyone they brought here recently to cram everyone into two days flights.

Information seems very sketchy, currently but one assumes they’ll keep flying people home as per schedule.

It's up to the travel company if or how they will refund you, neither your insurance or credit card company are liable unfortunately, unless, as you say FCO say don't go, then your insurance can kick in, but still not your cc unless the airline went bust
