Wild Africa Trek - August 2013

Animal kingdom today for Wild Africa Trek, headed straight over there once everyone was up to ensure we weren't rushing to check in. Waited ages for a bus, it ended up taking us over an hour to get to AK so good job we had decided to head over in plenty of time!

Breakfast became brunch in Africa as it was now around 10.30, after this we checked in ready for our trek and went off to look round shops while we waited for our time, we didn't want to risk getting in a queue and being late for the trek.

The trek was amazing, there were the 4 of us and a party of 7 american, not sure if they were a family but were all together and of varying ages. We met our guides Mandy &
Stephen. first off we were given lockers for everything other than hats & glasses, then all of us were fitted with our jackets with attached carabiner ready for the rope bridge, headsets to listen to the guides, given insect repellent, sunscreen, an attachment to go on our sunglasses to ensure they don't fall off & into the animals & given a souvenir water bottle to attach to our jackets & keep afterwards.

First we were all taken through the Harambe Nature reserve with the guides, stopped for a group photo and they told us lots of info about the various animals along the way, then it was off into a secluded area where we trekked through a wooded area around to the back of the hippos. We were all attached one by one to an overhead pulley so that we could go right up to the edge of the bank to watch the hippos. There was one of the hippo experts there telling us info about the father & son hippos Henry & and also feeding them so we got to see them up close.

The it was onto the rope bridge where we went one by one over first the hippos and then the crocodiles, absolutely amazing to be walking 20 feet above these creatures, slightly strange feeling watching your children do the same!

Next we were attached a similar bit to the hippos to get to the edge of the bank next to the crocs, and into our own private safari jeep for our guided safari with binoculars & our guides, we pulled over to watch and learn about the elephants and giraffes, were shown the different family groups and names of each and saw the difference between articulated and Masai giraffes. There were 2 babies in each group, baby elephants were 2 & 3 years old, one of the baby giraffes was only a few months.

Then up to an undercover area to have a light lunch with our back drop of elephants & giraffes, with time to walk along & behind to see the rhinos & ostrich.

Back in the jeep and the heavens opened so Stephen gave us all disney waterproof ponchos and we were taken to see the carnivores, lions & cheeters.

That brought us to the end of our amazing trek, we were also given conservation hero badges exclusive to Wild Africa Trek guests & we all got to whose which animals our money went towards, I put my stone in the elephant box, Rads went with giraffes and the boys both chose rhinos.

Brilliant tour, thoroughly recommend it to anyone considering.

10 minute wait for Expedition Everest so we rode that twice, waiting for the front row first time, then over to dinosaur and primeval whirl before the park closed and we got the bus to
Hollywood studios.

On arrival there it was straight onto TOT, then star tours, then over to 50's prime time cafe for dinner ending in S'mores for me & Zak, rads & I both had a peanut butter & jelly milkshake...

Watched fantasmic afterwards before heading back to OKW for a soak in the jacuzzi and glass of vino!

Lunch with a rather nice view

It's $189 each, no DVC discount on it at the mo. They are doing a $50 discount on some of the later time tours though.
