This time we are staying in San Diego instead of Anaheim, doing the zoo, safari park, Sea World.
We're also staying 3 nights in Monterey to do the aquarium, kayaking and whale watching
The last time I went, which was about 25 years ago! I based myself in Anaheim, but I'm not keen on all the driving/traffic! We are planning on doing the whale watching in Monterey too and using it as a couple of relaxing days after San Francisco and before we hit Santa Monica and San Diego. What time of year are you going?

I'd be very happy with that in a couple of weeks time

It looks as though you may have already amended your plans, but an alternative to Anaheim would be to base yourself around Huntington/Newport/Laguna Beach which as well as being great destinations in their own right, are also close enough to Anaheim if did want to visit and relatively close to LAX.

Edited at 07:30 PM.
