We use both

I fly out on AA to LAX and back with BA as they have the latest flight home , I also use AA to fly to North Carolina once / twice a year

Never had a problem with either airline

On our last flight to Miami, we flew out with BA and back with AA. Much preferred AA despite being delayed for about 10 hours (one of those things)

AA offer select your seats for free from the time you book, BA charge up until 24 hours before the flight, when it becomes free too. If the price was the same, I would chose AA for that reason alone, we did fly with BA back from LAX because we wanted to try the A 380.
