When to take a hire car ...

Hello we are flying into Las Vegas and staying for three nights before heading over to Death Valley. Should we hire the car upon arrival into the airport or would it make more sense to take a taxi from the airport and pick up the hire car from the hotel on the third day? Thought I read parking can be expensive in Las Vegas? Also, can anyone recommend a good hire car company where we can pick up on Las Vegas and drop at LA airport? Thanks y'all.

I would and always do take the car as soon as we arrive in Vegas , you’ll also get a far greater choice of car

A car makes life easier imo , and there is plenty to see off the strip as well as on it ,

All the major firms at at both airports , Avis is our preferred though

Hotels do charge for parking in Vegas ( mostly ) but there are still places to park for free like Miracle Mile shops , The Shoppes at Mandalay bay , fashion show mall , crystals , town square etc
Don’t think we paid for parking once in the strip last year jn the 10 days we were there .

I would hire a car from the strip hotels like we do, at the end of your stay. Avis, Budget, Enterprise are at the strip hotels. We have one booked at Bellagio to go to Death Valley. They have SUV's and regular cars...all great. You dont need a car if you are staying on the strip. We use Uber/Lyft from the airport and its about half price of a taxi. If I can be of any further help just ask Parking is around $15 pn at MGM hotels. Bit of a waste of money plus the price of the hire car if you are not going off strip.

We have a car the whole time even if we leave it in the car park for a few days it gives us the freedom though on the strip now we use Uber.
