Somewhere to stop for the night between Palm Springs and Yosemite?

So we still haven't booked our flights but its looking more and more likely we'll be flying in and out of SFO and completing one giant loop. The latest plan has us finishing the holiday with 3 nights in Yosemite after our 5 night stay in Oceanside. My thought was to check out early, drive to Palm Springs to go up the Aerial Tramway then possibly stop for the night before continuing on to Yosemite. Is there anywhere worth stopping or should we just do one long drive up and have an extra night in Oceanside?

Hi it's drivable in one but we would suggest going via lone pine so as to go into park via the tioga pass. What have you got as your basic plan. Happy to give ideas. We did our second trip last July

Thank you, yes we now may do it in one go and definitely via Tioga Pass.
Latest itinerary is:
San Fran 3 nights
Monterey 3 nights
Solvang 1 night
LA 2 nights
Anaheim 3 nights
Oceanside 6 nights
Yosemite 3 nights
I wanted to avoid too many 1 night stops where possible

Hi again assume when in Oceanside you will visit san diego ,zoo, wildlife park,la jolla all great. This is where some might say reconsider your options. If you cut LA are from 5 to 4 n and take 2 days of Oceanside you could then make your journey to yosemite much easier with 2 n in vegas and add a day trip to Grand Canyon . Get the I pad out again and look at the maps , just trying to give you other ideas

Hi, yes in Oceanside we will visit San Diego and La Jolla. The reason for staying further north is we like to rent an apartment and I know San Diego doesn’t allow short term rentals. We have 2 teenagers so a hotel room is a massive no no for any length of time and the suite hotels are way over budget in SD. We really want some downtime towards the end of the holiday and all enjoy the beach. My OH and I are off to Vegas and the Grand Canyon next month so we don’t need to add those on. We are travelling with my SIL and her family but will have separate accommodation to them. I’m just not sure if I’m missing anywhere else on the way back up to Yosemite?

Hi again on the last leg of your journey you will see a lot dessert and cacti . You could go via Death Valley but this would make the journey longer.
