California flight prices in the Summer holidays

I am beginning to tear my hair out with looking for half decent priced flights to California this summer! We can go for any 3 weeks but need to be back for the 22nd August and can fly into either SFO, LAX, SAN or LAS. Can anyone tell me what they've paid in previous years and when you booked? Many thanks!

Patenice and lots of searching is the key. Use google flights and kayak to help you search. Generally speaking mid August onwards is a bit cheaper but a good price can come up anytime. We've been the past three Augusts (always tied to the earlier part) and have paid £795pp in 2016 In SF Out LA with Aer Lingus, £603pp in 2017 In & Out of LA with Virgin and £594pp in 2018 In SF and Out LA with Virgin. The latter to years were pick on on 72 hour flash sales.

Prices are nuts at the moment but appreciate that it is more stressful when there is (allegedly) a sale on.

Previous prices I've paid (for a holiday that starts a week later than yours - landing 29th August) for 2017 and 2018 have been around £600pp, booked at start of Feb and Easter - both LHR-LAX with BA.

Thanks all. I think my problem is I’m expecting to get the flights and car for under £600pp like others have in the past. I can find British Airways LHR-LAX-SFO then SFO-LHR plus car for £705pp. This is 17/07-07/08. Should I just bite the bullet?

I booked our return flights to San Diego from Heathrow in October 2018. I booked on Virgin's website in their October sale and paid £263 each for an indirect flight with one stopover in Salt Lake City. This price excludes checked luggage and allocated seats. We are flying out 6th August this year and back 23rd August.

Hi Jack's flight club are advertising really goid prices today around the £250 bracket.
That's how we got ours for this August and we managed £1374 for 2 adults 2 children with 1 stop each way.
I think the ones advertised today were direct.

For this summer, we have paid £2200 for 4 of us, flying with Thomas Cook direct into SFO out of Vegas. Booked in April last year!

I think we paid just under £2200 for 4 of us for 3 weeks in August BA Fly drive with Group W SUV. We booked it in early September a few years ago.
