Miami and Florida Keys help please
We have been to Florida many times but have always been to Orlando and the Gulf Coast. We would like to try Miami and the Keys but we are a bit worried that there won't be much to do for our children (15 and 10). Could anyone help with information on Miami and the Keys. Is it worth it ? What is there to do ? Best places to stay etc. Thank you.

We are heading out there over Easter with kids 12 and 9. Looks like there is plenty to keep us busy, sightseeing and loads of water sports - snorkelling, kayaking, paddle boarding etc if that’s your thing. I was planning plenty of pool time but keep adding on things to do.
4 nights Miami Beach in a condo - plan to do HOHO bus of main sights, wynwood walls, little Havana, bayside shops/restaurants, botanic gardens, stars houses boat trip, some beach/pool time, see the Art Deco buildings, eat at big pink diner and 11th street diner and see the sights at muscle beach. 3 nights Key West - drive via Robbies to feed the tarpon, have a drink at the No Name Bar en route to Hilton Garden Inn at KW. Plan to visit main KW sights, including southern most point, fort Zachary, light house, Truman house, Hemingway house, drinks at sloppy joes, key lime pie at kermits, rum distillery, pool time and Mallory square sunset celebration. 4 nights Key Largo - drive north via Bahia Honda state park, visit the turtle hospital, stay at Marriott Bay Beach resort. Visit John Pennekamp state park, spot manatees in the marina, pool time and DH may look into doing a half day fishing trip while the rest of us are at the pool. Eat at quirky places such as Mrs Macs kitchen. I’m planning on doing a mini trippie when I get back. Edited at 05:24 PM. |

Our favourite place to stay in the keys is Islamorada, great base and close to Robbies, enough there with fishing, kayaking, snorkelling and feeding the tarpon to keep you occupied for days. Excellent restaurants too with Lazy Days, Lorelei and a fair few more.

we are going end of June with 2 kids 13 and almost 15.have booked hotel near Miami beach for 5 nights and was going to get a 3 day go Miami card as lots of things covered like bus and boat trips museums etc.
Now thinking of changing this to 3 nights and instead of a day trip to the Keys booking 2 nights there...not sure best place to base ourselves in if we do this ? Need reasonable hotel as on a budget

Following this too as we've got 2 nights in South Beach before heading up to Fort Pierce for 3 nights.

We’ve stayed in Miami nearly every trip as we usually fly via there. Lots to see and do, Wynwood Walls are brilliant we went last year and both us and the kids loved it. Great beaches, Biscayne is beautiful and tends to be quieter. Vizcaya is lovely and an amazing house to wander round in the middle of Miami. Miami Zoo is worth a visit, our boys really like it there and usually insist on a return visit ☺️ Lots of shopping, Dolphin Mall etc. South Beach and the Art Deco buildings etc etc. Honestly loads to do it won’t be a problem.
Key west we haven’t visited for a few years but back for 4 nights in April and can’t wait. Very chilled, loved the Little White House, ice creams by the harbour watching the cruise ships come in, lighthouse, Southernmost Point, Mallory Sq people watching.

Thank you everyone. That's really helpful. I have written down all the suggestions and have just got to decide how long to spend at each place and where now

We fly into Miami for the first time with our 10 and 12 yr old. We've booked a waterfront villa in Cape Coral for a week so we can explore all the lovely beaches around there and then we'll be driving down to the Keys.
Our kids love the water and wildlife so I'm sure they'll be happy and more than entertained. Happy planning! |

I love the way geordieprincess tucks "and see the sights at muscle beach" at the very end of her list for Miami attractions
