Yes, during 2011 and other years, MK closed later - sometimes as early as 10pm, sometimes as late as 12am (not including evening EMH).

I was merely pointing out that, overall as things stand, the parks will open as much in August this year as they were back in 2007 and perhaps earlier. Since 2007 the park hours got later at MK. People are quick to complain when MK closes 2 hours earlier but don't seem to congratulate Disney for opening AK 2 hours later or when MK closes later.

Of course, we're assuming the park hours for August will remain as they currently are - which is unlikely. Last year (2018), MK's park hours were extended and it was generally open until 10pm or 11pm during most of August (not including party nights). In 2017, it was never open later than 10pm. So MK opened later in 2018 than in 2017.

If the closing time for MK remains at 9pm then I'd imagine it's because attendance is expected to be lower and so not so much need to open late.

I also reckon park ticket prices were significantly less in 2007.

Indeed they were*. But increasing ticket prices are a completely different thing and not in any way related to opening times. The prices of many things have increased since 2007.

(*for example, a 1 day ticket was $71 in 2007 and now it's anywhere between $109 and $129 depending on the date. So the US prices have increased by at least 53%)

Using a US inflation calculator the $71 in 2007 would be $85.99 in 2019. So really a 27% increase. But there is also a lot more there now than in 2007.

The park hours only go up to July 20th on the Disneyworld site so maybe these hours are not confirmed yet.

We said this last year that park hours seem to be getting shorter.

However, the extra hours at Animal Kingdom are very welcome

Well, the price has increased by at least 53% but I agree that some of that increase is due to inflation and some of it is due to increased profit for Disney (some of which goes towards paying for more attractions and numerous other things).

I think it works out at somewhere between 2% and 3.5% profit increase per year on the 1 day tickets (range is due to the variability of MYW ticket prices now). That doesn't seem too unreasonable to me (YMMV).

Although, as mentioned above, MK in August 2018 was open for slightly longer than it was in August 2017. But not as long as previous years (unless you go back to 2007 ).

Park hours will change nearer the time, we went in August 2016 & 2018 and both times the hours weee extended. In 2016 we spent 2 evenings in MK till 12...one was an extra magic hours another was an offsite day where it opened till midnight. Last year we had extra evening hours till 11pm a few times while onsite. They change from 10pm openings about 3/4 weeks before we went.

They always used to be open until at least 10pm, moreover until. 11pm or midnight when we go April/May. They’re only open until 9pm now.
