I would say this is what you think now. But who knows what will hit us in the future (maybe you have large sums of cash in the bank) and the effect of compund growth on dues. If your dues were 20k/ 30k a year in 20-30 years' time, would you still be happy to pay them and let friends go? I wouldn't.
I agree I dont think it is too negative for current DVC owners. I think it is very negative if wanting to buy a new 'DVC 2' resort direct.

I've been reading the comments on one of the DVC facebook groups - they are alternately funny and OMG why would you say that. Someone who bought direct and doesn't like their home resort is happy as they think now they will be able to get into the other resorts easier.

Interesting reading & here's my take on it:
Disney have just created that brand new shiny car that depreciates like a stone the minute you drive it off of the forecourt! Incentives- well looking at the current incentives you are really going to have to go some to make a decent saving on +$200/point Skyliner- it's just transport & it's not as if you can choose to walk to Epcot! Small Studios- great for couples but not such a draw for families & you are still in the middle of nowhere! Shiny shiny new resort - that will be filled with teething problems & there are cheaper options IMO they are counting on those that don't do their due diligence, with the average family keeping their contract for 5-15 years who in the right mind is going to take that sort of hit & not have concerns about their losses. I agree that there must be some small print somewhere, on the 14, that prevents them doing this. Personally I'm not interested in staying at Riveria, I'll stick to SSR & if we add on it will be Resale SD

Some of the Facebook people have no clue, what they bought, really how it works or any idea what this is and how it effects them. They seem to think that it creates more availability, don't seem to realise that all current resale owners are in exactly the same place as them on this, and don't seem to realise it has an impact on their resale value- positively or negatively- exactly the same as anyone else.
They actually think DVD are doing this for the good of the membership. Many have a total lack of any analytical mind. Sorry for sounding harsh, but it is true.

Good post and well summed up.
With 2 of us am I interested in a broom cupboard at Riviera - No Do I care about some half baked gondola where I am going to boil in the heat - No Do I want to stay overlooking a main road - No I would however appreciate a Monorail that works more than 25% of the time, food that is value for money, to be treated as a visitor not a sponge where I can be squeezed to extract money from. Mmm, time for a lie down in a dark room I think as I am bouncing off the walls at the moment with WDW and their sheer vomit inducing greed.

No- I did hear a rumour this morning though (supposedly come from DVC Guides and a decent source) that whilst the points cost will be high, points per night will be pretty good. That could make it attractive if, say, it has points equivalent to an SSR or BWV.
Call me sceptical though, I would be surprised if DVD would leave the money of high points per night on the table. We may not find out until it goes on sale, maybe Summer.

An awful lot of Americans use DVC and go on holiday different to us.
Using the new resorts, under the new system may not bother them as much.
