NHS - am I being unreasonable ?

Hi JLH,
I also had an appointment to get the results of my breast biopsy cancelled the day before it was due to take place two years ago.
A breast care nurse did phone me however and the reason was that the biopsy analysis and report from the pathologist was taking longer than they expected it to. I waited an additional week for the appointment. It was just micro calcifications though so I was one of the lucky ones.

Why not try to email the secretary/consultant/SpN theres usually an email contact on clinic letters.

I would keep on at them, call and call until they are fed up with you, I know you probably don't want to be a pest, but it's important to you and they should know how anxious people get over these results. I deal with a lot of similar calls where parents are expecting calls from consultants and they don't get them when they are told to expect them, and they're clearly anxious, it's very frustrating!. It's not unreasonable for you to request the results, please keep on at them!

thanks for replies , post has been and still no appointment date, have rung up again and again had to leave message and haven't as yet received a call back. There is no email address to message , am going to try my doctor to see if they know the results when they reopen later this afternoon or to see if they can sort something. Quite fed up with it now , how hard can it be to inform someone of the date of a rescheduled appointment.

Can you call the hospital and speak to the PALS department. I did this with my son and things were sorted quickly, don’t leave it ! I found the secretary’s rarely call back when they say they will. Most are very part time.

Same happened with me - appt cancelled day before and I had to wait another week. My consultant did phone to say it was purely down to a delay in the lab nothing more sinister. Its horrible keeping someone waiting like this. I knew I had DCIS but was waiting to hear if it all been removed or if I needed more surgery.
It had all been removed but I had some follow up Radiotherapy.
The worst part by far was the waiting for those results.

well I tried the hospital again went through to switchboard who tried to get me to go to the secretary again but I said no i wanted to speak to someone who was there. The person I spoke to said the appointment was cancelled as they had decided to write to me with the results so I am guessing that means its all ok !Not sure why on earth they rang and told me it would be rescheduled and why they couldn't ring me the results as the consultant said they would do . It has just caused me a week of extra worry , hopefully the letter with the all clear will be here soon. I will be sending a letter addressing my concerns on how the whole thing was dealt with but thankfully all is good now I hope.
