3 nights in Paris – nothing to do with that Hilton Hotel bir

The Day before Paris Wednesday 7th February 2007

Moi – Lana
Mon mari Alex – chief booker and provider of my dream break
Mon mielleur ami Siobhan – co-booker and secret keeper extraordinaire
Mon bon ami Brian, mari de Siobhan - Brian, Siobhan hubby, all round good guy

We decide that we will stay in Glasgow the night before we travel to Paris. Mainly because it adds a cheeky extra day onto the holiday. Secondly, so we don’t need to leave Inverness at first light, to drive to Glasgow and arrive in Paris knackered. We opt for the Holiday Inn Express as it is close to the airport and has a restaurant and bar for those pre- holiday G&Ts. The kids are all excited for us going away as my mum is coming to stay with them. Our DD17 tries in vane to wrangle an overnight stay with her friends for an 18th Birthday Party on the Saturday but we do the great parental trick of saying we rather she stayed and helped her Gran look after the boys and the dog, but its her decision. As neither of us will give her the outright permission she craves, she opts, reluctantly to stay in on a Saturday night. I’m in need of a cold cloth and a sit down as the shock of her staying in on a Saturday night throws me sideways. After lots of hugs (not from DD, she is sulking at the top of the stairs and mumbling about how crap her life is) and last minute re caps with Mum about how to turn on the oven, the central heating etc (again), we get into the car and head off down the road at 1pm.

We arrive in Glasgow 3 hours later and discover that neither of us has left our house keys with my mum! The spare set is summoned from a relatives and crisis is over. It costs £50 for the room and a continental buffet breakfast and they offer valet secure parking for £5 a day whilst your away. The room is comfortable and spacious enough for two people and two suitcases. After a shower and a nap we polish off a bottle of champers and head for the restaurant. We have a nice supper of home made beef burger and fries and lasagne. Siobhan (Shiv) and Brian arrive and check in just before 9pm as we are having our first G&T of the night. After they have eaten we have a few drinks in the bar and discuss the forecast snow fall for England over the next few days, wondering if it will affect our BA flight to CDG as it stops briefly in Birmingham. I want to take a photo of us all but realise that Ive left the camera in the room, typical. We chat with a couple from Glasgow (parents to seven kids! ) who fly out early next morning to Israel for a well deserved break, then head off for bed as happy as a happy thing.

A great idea having the night in Glasgow so that the first day isn't totally exhausting. And plenty of time for the G & T's!
