The Making of Me
Anyone else watched this series on Channel 4?
It’s about the transformation of people who are changing gender. I found it fascinating and also humbling that some of these people were so incredibly brave. Definatly worth a watch. |

I have watched a couple and where I agree that there are some brave people on there I also felt that there was some selfishness too, the elderly men that transgendered and wanted their wives to support them , I felt so sorry for those wives having to go through all those different emotions , it's really hard on a level of what is right and wrong in that situation as the men got their wish and the women suffered .
The young girl who only decided to transgender 9 months ago and then half way through her treatment decided she didn't want to be a male and would stay a girl and " choose " to be a different gender altogether, I found that confusing as I was led to believe there was no " choice " you are what you are it's not a choice , the way she spoke i felt it belittled those who fight tooth and nail to be the gender they should be. Some really heartwarming stories though of how some turned their lives around to be able to live their lives in the comfort of their changed bodies .

I have to say I really felt for the mum and dad whose son had transgendered nine months previously and then wanted them to remove all photos of him as a boy. She was so cross with her parents for refusing to remove them but as her mum said the photos are their family’s history and that can’t be changed.

I didn't watch the show but I did see a clip of it on Gogglebox. It showed a husband and wife where the husband was transitioning. They continued to live together etc but it all got too much for the wife when they were at the hairdressers and she broke down. It was lovely to see how supportive she is but you can definitely understand how hard it must be for her.

This is why I couldn't help but feel that some of the decisions seem selfish , in this case he wanted nothing to change regarding his life with his wife, he wanted the female body and to be recognised as female while his wife was left to cope with the aftermath .
