Just got back today after a few days. Great visit as usual, no issues. As others have said it's worth taking simple precautions. Don't carry more money etc with you than you need, handbags best zipped and cross body at the front, wallets in hip pocket with your hand on it, be aware of your surroundings, if you feel at all uncomfortable in an area, head back to somewhere you know is safer. Don't over indulge on drink.
Lovely city.

Vinitus is a great Tapas restaurant, get there before 7.30 for a short wait for a table, Marmalade is a great place with good food and very friendly staff, takes reservations. Mauri for a classy coffee and cake experience.

I always try and dress more like a local in a city, if that makes sense. Linen trousers and a nice top rather than wearing shorts and t shirt. I think people coming off the cruise ships in Barcelona are easy pickings, as often they stand out more as tourists.
Not easy to look like a local, IMO.

No matter what you’re wearing, it is likely to be obvious you’re not a local.

Can’t pinpoint exactly what it is but you can spot who is a Brit/Irish or an American or a German/Scandinavian or a Spaniard/Italian etc etc; something just marks us out as being from a particular country/part of the world.

IMO, this is true no matter where you are in the world.
You stand in Florida; everyone is in shorts & T’s but you can usually pinpoint which part of the world people are from without them speaking by their ‘look’.

The same in London; you can usually spot those who aren’t Londoners (whether that be living or working in) but that’s because they don’t walk like a Londoner; ie, swerve to walk round/past people, knowing you don’t have to wait for the green man so you can save seconds crossing the road 😃

I love Barcelona and never felt unsafe there. I even went out on my own down the back streets where our apartment was and felt perfectly safe. I don't think it's any different to any big city. I am sure you will have a fantastic time x

Very true. But I will say that your last point is worth commenting on in the context of safety in Barcelona. Just about every red light at pedestrian crossings and major junctions, especially at or near rush hour periods turns into a Moto GP start line. Watch out for the scooters and motorcycles and in particular the cyclists on the cycle lanes.
