New York - early Jan

Friends fancy going to NYC on 1 Jan for 5 nights and have invited me to go. We looked at leaving 29-31 Dec but it is pretty expensive. Have made them aware it could be brutally cold but, as I love NYC, said I quite fancy it.

One of the reasons for one of my friends going at that time is to catch some of the sights in holiday decorations etc.

Does anyone know if they still have decorations, lights etc up for even the first few days in Jan?

Afraid we can't. Friends are taking their school kids and the eldest will be sitting exams then.

We have been there 31st Dec - 4th Jan and the weather was fine! The tree and decorations were still up.

cant imagine they take them down within days of 1st Jan

i saw on FB in the last few weeks the christmas village at Bryant Park being dismantled so assume its open all of jan at least ?

could be baltic could be mild , as always with NYC in winter clothing plan/assume the worst, plenty of layers

The Rockefeller tree will be up until 6/7th January. The ice rinks at Rockefeller and Central Park will still be there. Most of the lights will still be up too.

We've been a couple of times at this time of year. I like it - I think NYC suits the cold somehow.

We missed the Rockerfeller tree last time - I think we arrived on the 8th or 9th and it had gone the day before. DW was gutted. If you go the first few days you should be fine.
