We've done this route many a time, it's ok but I will admit that it's difficult with a young kid.
Unless you have a buggy that will fit in an overhead, you'll be able to take it to the door in Glasgow but you won't get it back until you get to the baggage carousel in Orlando. We had a bit of a nightmare with this in September as the GLA gate staff tagged it for return at Gatwick but it actually was put straight through and we lost a lot of our layover time waiting for it only for it not to appear. There are certain buggies that fold down enough & will fit in the overheads..if you can get one, I'd recommend it. We found the wee one unsettled for the flights, it's a long time sat during boating on both flights and it's two take offs and landings that you need to be ready for and it was stressful for our wee one. After that nightmare we decided next time we will do direct so that it's only one flight and hopefully a better overall experience, it might be a wee bit more expensive but in the grand scheme of things if it works out then it's worth it and we can go back to indirect when she's older.

If your flight is in & out of LGW it will be checked right through
If your flight is into LGW & out of LHR you would need to collect

Thanks all. In and out of same airport (LGW) so good to know we'll see bags at final destination in Glasgow. Flight already delayed but still plenty of time for our connection to GLA. Exactly the same delay as the route had yesterday! Where do people like to eat in MCO?

Are they going to remove the security check completely for flight transfers? Previously in the North terminal (and at Heathrow) I still had to complete a security check on the domestic to international connection. On the return it was always clear immigration and back to landside and re-clear security.

The plan for the South terminal is that airside transfer without security for domestic to international will happen, but it is not yet ready.
At LHR, you only have to clear security on a domestic to international connection is a terminal transfer is involved (or if you had separate tickets for the two flights and checked bags). A same terminal domestic to international connection at LHR on a single ticket (eg T5 > T5) does not require a security check unless you go the wrong way and exit arrivals. |
