Thanks for the guide Simon. First time to Orlando in June and staying 2nd week in a villa with plans to visit Winter Park on one of our sight seeing days. Sounds like a great day out, thanks!

Has anyone visited Winter Park when the Sidewalk Art Festival is taking place - it is on this weekend and thought a trip up there on Sun Rail for a wander around and lunch would be nice. Probably best to make a dining reservation at one of the restaurants if wanting to eat at certain ones I expect.

Unfortunately, Sunrail doesn't operate at the weekends, so you would have to drive to get there. It is a great event (the artists are packed in!), but it is a lot of fun and very community-orientated, with live music, food kiosks and more. Some restaurants don't take bookings on Art Festival weekends, so it is first come, first served, which tends to keep lines down.

Thanks Simon V - I forgot to post that I hope to go on Friday so Sun Rail should be OK. Sounds a good day out.

Yes, you're fine with Sunrail (up to 8.46pm, the last train southbound)

Hi again folks. We have just been speaking with the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce, and they have confessed to a bit of a snafu on the discount voucher package that was supposed to be with the free water and maps as part of the Brit Bonus deal. Apparently, this hasn't been forthcoming due to an office oversight, and they are extremely apologetic. They are promising to get it all back on track again, but it might not be until early summer until they have been able to sort out all the necessary deals, etc, with the various merchants, when they should have a package of deals available on a regular basis to add to the value of a visit to Winter Park.
We will obviously let you know as soon as things are straightened out |

Hi Simon, is there anything special planned for Winter Park for July 4th? We're hoping to do something a little different to celebrate being there on Independence Day, and thought this might be worth a visit...sounds nice.

WP definitely does a July 4th celebration, but it is primarily a morning event, with music and festivities in Central Park. They don't do fireworks at all.
Here are the details: cityofwinterpark/event/2...y-celebration/ If you're feeling brave, you could combine WP with the evening festivities around Lake Eola in downtown Orlando: downtownorlando/event.../#.XJzByVVKiUk You'd need to arrive early to make sure of finding somewhere to park, but it is a big event. If you wanted to do a local fireworks show, the big Independence Day celebration at Cranes Roost Park (next to Altamonte Mall), just to the north, is actually on July 3: cityofwinterpark/event/2...y-celebration/ |

We are at Winter Park now. At the new visitor centre sadly they have no knowledge of Simon’s offer at the start of this thread. Talking to Kelly about it. She has no information about it.

Yes, we are in direct talks with the Chamber at the moment to work out where things went wrong here. It seems it may have fallen between the cracks of one staff member leaving and another taking over who was unfamiliar with what had been planned.
We hope to have everything back on track by early summer, so please bear with us during these growing pains |
