First day dilemma - what would you do?
Helloooo,
Planning and already have a question on first day lol! My mum and dad are coming with us (early 50s) and it is their first time and our second. My original plan was to go to Magic Kingdom which does fit on the busy guide day however typically is a MNSSHP night so park shuts at 6 which seems really early... so my options are:- 1) plough on with magic kingdom first day and then park hop to epcot for drinks around the world showcase (and hopefully 9pm fireworks if jet lag allows) 2) as above but Disney springs instead of Epcot 3) as above but try to book Cali Grill and see fireworks before we go back to hotel 4) go to animal kingdom for the full day with a Tusker House brunch and rivers of light at 8 I don't know whether Animal Kingdom will have that same wow for first park? But if do one of first options then it means 3 visits in our schedule for MK so we could see HEA and our MNSSHP evening. I know it sounds daft but its with it being the first day for a special trip for them so just wondered opinions x |

First full day, or arrival day?
If first full day, you'll all be on UK time still and therefore up at daft o'clock - MK for rope drop would be my choice. Get done what you need to get done, then change the pace to either Epcot or Springs early afternoon (or even back to the hotel for a recharge if on property, then back out). Your Option 3... Not so sure I'd schedule an ADR on that first day in case your folks are exhausted and you have to miss out. Just a thought. 4? Again, by eight pm on your first full day, is RoL the first impression you want for your parents - tiredness may be kicking in, you'll be jammed in like sardines, crowd dynamics and behaviours start to grate... (plus, just a personal opinion here, RoL is just plain bad!). 1 or 2 all the way. |

First full day sorry! Arrival day is just check in, getting water and supplies and maybe pirates adventure golf on idrive.
Staying offsite and using uber so wouldn't really want to go back and forth unless needed it. I've not yet seen ROL as it wasn't on when we went - is it really that bad? Is it worth seeing another night, just not first impression?x |

If not on property, then yes, staying in the parks 'til you've had enough is definitely the better option.
As for RoL, I'm glad I saw it, as it was new and I like to experience new stuff, but I'd not go again (were supposed to see it in '16 when it was touted to start but they had the Jungle Book thing as an interim production because they couldn't get RoL out on schedule. Saw it finally on our 2018 trip). Don't just take my word for it - you could love it, plenty do from these boards; perhaps it's marmite? By "first impressions" I was thinking the queue for entry, getting comfy (we'd FP+ it), only for then to be told to squeeze that little further up, repeat every ten minutes or so for the hour that you're sat there before the show... now I'm a patient fella, but a lot around in the "arena" aren't; I'd save that for later in the hols (completely off-topic, I still think Fantasmic in HS is, well, fantastic, and the very best of those type of shows; we visit that every Disney vacation). |

I agree Fantasmic is one of the best things I've seen - I cannot wait to see it again and am aiming to go twice while we are there if possible - once during the holiday and our last night as its MNSSHP then too so can't see HEA that night. We saw twice on our first trip too as I just think its incredible! I did consider this for the first evening also but I want to be fresh and really enjoy it plus HS is my favourite park so want to have a full day first visit.
I was the same with 2016 - that was our first trip and we saw the jungle book thing which I quite enjoyed but my boyfriend didn't like so hoping ROL is better than that to keep him happy at least! x |

Option 1, unfortunately the early closing for MNSSHP is here to stay, last year we stayed until closing & hopped to the Poly & ate at Kona, this year we plan on Artists Point & watch Hallowwishes from the beach. CG is great for viewing but a pricey option if you aren't on the dining plan.
From experience, because you are still on UK time & add in the fact that most people aren't used to walking 10 miles a day, by 5-6 pm you are already starting to "slow" down & are at the point where you are "hanging on " for the show ! SD

Thanks for your reply. I am thinking option 1 but maybe leave Magic Kingdom not long after the parade rather than pushing until end? Do you know if it would be easy to go from Magic Kingdom to the Polynesian for a drink and chill at Trader Sams before heading to Epcot to give us a chance of making the fireworks? x

Very easy to get to any of the MK resorts, mono-rail, ferry or friendship boats. You do know that they no-longer have the 3 o'clock parade? From memory it's around 2:10-2:15, throughout the day they also have Move it Shake it Dance party which is a bit like a mini parade IYKWIM

ooh excellent - we didn't really park hop on our first trip other than the odd day from a water park to another park but this trip planning to a bit just because we've stupidly added an extra 2 parks to what we did last time (Discovery cove and Volcano Bay was closed when we went) so with the MNSSHP nights on top I think we'll have to give it a try. Park hours seem a lot shorter than when we went too as last time we did June and this time its September. Will have to have a look at the dance party - sounds fun for a group of big kids! x

MK to start and play the evening by ear. We're too tired for much after 4-5 on day 1.
