Fjords cruise with kids, August 2019
I am WAAAYYY out of my depth here, never done a cruise before or even looked into it. Saw an advert for 2020 for a Norwegian cruise on the new P&O ship but then started to look into it for this year as we haven't booked anything for this summer. We are really limited on time and up to now I have only found 2 cruises which fit our dates - a P&O cruise on the Ventura (Norwegian Fjords 7 nights) and a Fred Olsen cruise on the Balmoral (Villages, Towns and Fjords of Norway). We have 2 kids (12 and 10), just wondering if any one can help us here. Which of the two cruises would you recommend for first timers with kids? Any thoughts on the cruise companies? Thanks, Sarah

Not been on Fred Olsen but my parents have and reckon it is totally geared towards the older age group. I would say go with P and O.
Fjords is a great cruise btw. We did it last year on Cunard. |

We really enjoyed our P and O cruise. My dd was 14 and went to the kids club once and decided it wasn’t for her but there were kids in there and they had a number of different age ranges. We were on Brittannia but I think it will be similiar.
I wouldn’t take kids on Frwd Olsen. It’s definitely for the older clientele. My friend in her 30s goes with her mum and reckons she’s the youngest by 30 years. |

We did the fjords last summer on Azura and loved it. Kids similar ages loved the kids club...even my 14 yr old.
The kids also enjoyed the stops Highly recommend it

Oh yes definitely avoid Fred Olsen. We have been in port with a FO ship a few times and are yet to spot anyone on one who looks under 60.
P&O are decent for kids and a good choice for the Fjords. We are doing the Fjords on Britannia this year as a family including my 3yr old nephew! |

We did the fjords with Royal Caribbean a few years ago. My kids were 16, 14 and 10 and they all had a great time (they didn’t use the kids clubs, they never do on holidays).
We’re going on a P&O cruise soon (also on Ventura), first time so not sure what we’ll all think yet. But, two of my kids are adults now, the youngest will be just turned 14, so it will be different anyway. Im sure you’ll have a great time. Edited at 12:29 PM. |

Oi Squish! Im 47 and doing 3 Freds cruises this year!
I have been taking my kids on Fred Olsen since they were tiny (I do work for them so they had no choice lol) In school holidays they have kids hosts to do games, scavenger hunts, crafts, cookie making sessions, all kinds of things for them to do. My boys never complained they were bored, and have since been on gigantic cruise ships with all kinds of slides, roller skating, surfing etc, and still love to do Freds given the choice. OP - any cruise will be fabulous, and Norway is beautiful, I have been with my boys and they really enjoyed all the ports, we kayaked on a fjord, did a bike/hike tour to a goergeous waterfall, and went up the Floybann in Bergen (they also loved McDonalds in bergen its the poshest one they have ever seen lol!) Have a fab time x
