Hong Kong Disney worth visiting?

My two tips are don’t bother with the cable car up to the peak but take the bus up. It’s much more exciting travelling up the mountain on a small winding road with the double decker bus not slowing down with a vertical drop a few feet away. Then take the cable car back down.

Also don’t bother with most of the markets as they are pretty pointless and instead head to Stanley for the lovely market and shops. Plus you have the beach and views.

We went to Hong Kong Disneyland last May and had the time of our lives. We stopped in Hong Kong Disneyland hotel (ignoring comments to stop elsewhere due to it's location) and were so pleased we did. You can go anywhere in Hong Kong thanks to the excellent Metro (MTR) system, the longest we waited for a train was 3 minutes in the whole of our stay and the station is right outside Disneyland a very short walk from the hotel.

Disneyland itself is fantastic and reminded us of how Magic Kingdom (WDW) used to be before it got so busy. Give it a few years and there will be so much more to do there with Frozen land and Marvel Land opening.

Make sure you download the Hong Kong Metro app to your phone and it will give you directions to anywhere via the Metro System it is absolutely fantastic.

Although it was mentioned above to avoid the markets, Temple Street night market was an eye opener and although not great for shopping it was great for the atmosphere.

Can you no longer take the funicular railway up to the peak? We haven't been since 1996 and we are going again next February. It will be DD's first time. She is determined that we are going to go to Disney but we'd like to do all the other touristy stuff too.

We did Ocean Park in 96 and it was a lovely day out but, I think, if we are doing Disney this trip then one park is enough.

Is Aberdeen Harbour still worth a visit?

As far as I know the cable car is at Ngong Ping 360 (Big Buddha), that's where we caught the cable car anyway and it was spectacular? The tram is definitely still at Victoria Peak and I don't remember seeing a cable car at Victoria Peak but may be wrong?

Ah, thanks. We didn't get to Lantau last time we were there. Maybe in February we will make it.

We did make it to the Ten Thousand Buddha's monastery though - they could do with a cable car there! Its a hell of a lot of steps to climb!

You are right. We were there last year and in fact we did not go on either!

We took the bus up and back down the Peak as the queues for the tram were horrendous. It was much quicker, easier and cheaper taking the bus. When visiting the Big Buddha we couldn’t take the cable car as it was closed all week for maintenance. They laid on an air conditioned coach instead so that was no problem. That was a great day out.

We found it highly amusing that we were visiting the Po Lin Monastery and the first thing we saw when we got off the cable car was a Subway. It is a fantastic place to visit though.

We had to take bus to the peak when we visited as they were doing work on the tram to the peak. Having done the top deck front of a double decker bus down from the peak I recommend you get the tram up and the bus down. its better than any thrill ride!

We loved the cable car to Nong Ping a great day out. Really looking to returning in Oct

WDWMAD did you like Disneyland hotel? We are trying to decide which hotel to book. We are three nights in Kowloon Icon and then two at a Disney hotel.

We loved it, although we have the Grand Floridian as our home resort in Vacation Club so we are a bit bias as it was basically a smaller version of the Grand Floridian, very beautiful and right by the sea. The pool area is fantastic as are the maze and gardens.
