Just to add to my earlier post. Mauritius is a fairly big island and hiring a car is a good way of getting around. Driving was easy although Port Louis was a bit manic. There’s the coloured earth to see and some lovely gardens at Pamplemouse. The drive round the North and South ends of the island are contrasting but beautiful. We also popped into a Hindu Temple and they were very welcoming. The locals are generally very friendly.

Thanks again, we had planned on renting a car with airport pick up and drop off at Port Louis where the cruise leaves from.

We have been twice, stayed in the north in grand gaube and in the east in Belle Mare. The east was much nicer (weather and beaches) but felt a lot more remote. We had a car both times and have visited what felt like every inch of the island. We loved Grand bay but hated port Louise. The Lux at Belle mare is the most wonderful hotel I have ever been lucky enough to stay in and I can’t wait to go back.

Thanks, we have decided to split our time on Mauritius 4 days before, and three days after the cruise. We have booked a place on the beach near Grand Baie before the cruise and will have a look at the east coast for after.
ETA just looked at Belle Mare, it looks fab, but at £450pn, room only, we might give it a miss!😂

We did dubai and mauritius last May. Loved them both, we stayed at the Outrigger resort on the south of the island it was lovely, right on the beach. Would go back, we had lovely weather, good food, good snorkelling, really relaxing.😊

We went as part of our honeymoon last year following a safari in South Africa.

We stayed at the Heritage Awali resort which was great and had a great selection of restaurants (a la carte as well as buffet restaurants). We really liked the resort, it was lovely and peaceful and it felt like a lot was included in the all inclusive, unlike some other places.

We could also use the pool/beach/restaurants of the neighbouring hotel called Heritage Le Telfair, which was also a beautiful resort
