House alarms pet friendly?
Someone was telling me you can buy a house alarm that's pet friendly so basically if you have cats or dogs that roam round the house you can still set the house alarm is this correct and has anyone got one they could recommend I cant work out how they would work ? thanks

Ours is set by pressure pads on doors and windows, so the cats don't set it off.
Although we could get the sensor set so that it wouldn't got off with just the cats movement, if the cats moved the patio blinds etc, the mass of the big blind moving rather than the small cat, would set the alarm off. |

I used to fit alarms, and some people thought the pir animal alarm sensors were magic, but they unfortunately aren't. Dogs aren't usually a problem especially a dog the size of my cocker, but big dogs can be more of an issue.
Problem with cats is, if they are allowed to have the full run of the house and can jump on things like floor cabinets, wall cabinets or shelves they can set the alarm off (even animal pir sensors). If you are using a proper alarm company they will properly advise you, and do a survey of your home and where the animals are kept at night (in part set) and where the animals are when the alarm is fully set (no people in the house). We have different settings on our house alarm depending on whether house is empty (includes sensors) or not. I've accidentally set the wrong alarm with cat in house and put sensors on but either he didn't jump up on anything to get high enough or more likely he just didn't move at all between alarm being turned on and off again a few hours later LOL.

My sisters alarm is set not to activate on a cat setting in the areas they have free roam in the sensors are set differently apparently. She's never had it go off by accident although I set if off by selecting the wrong setting when cat sitting. It also doesn't go off when they bring home organic toys

We have cats so instead of motion sensors we have vibration sensors fitted to windows and doors, with additional contact sensors on doors and windows opening to the exterior. So if doors are opened the alarm triggers and if anyone hits the glass to try to break it the alarm sounds.

We have a dog and a cat who both go in areas where the motion sensors are and never had it go off.
