Budget Car Hire Addtional Charges

Hi, Just wondering if anyone can advise what the additional charges would be for breakdown cover and also if you can purchase excess protection in Florida?

We have always purchased this excess fee insurance in Europe as would hate to be saddled with a large excess fee, but not sure how this works in Florida. I know the breakdown fee is applied daily as we have done this on previous trips, but can't remember how much it was.

Thanks for your help

There is no excess fee on US car rentals. No need to buy a policy for that.

For Roadside Assistance the cost is $7.09 per day but at some locations is $7.99 for some reason

Always better if you do want this coverage to buy a stand alone policy from a UK or US broker at half the price and invariably better coverage.

Just make sure you are aware with what you get as standard v the enhanced coverage to make an informed decision.

Is this something that can be done before we go, given we won't have the car details? If so who can we do this through?

Thanks Justine

Thanks for your response.

I was always under the impression that the insurance given as standard didn't give you cover for flat tyres etc. is that not the case?

Thanks Justine

Sorry, had to go to a funeral!

OK. The normal rental car T & C's cover such things as towing you in if it breaks down, towing following a bump, car replacement, flat battery etc

The Roadside Assistance package covers misfueling (unlikely in the US) flat battery from leaving the lights on (who would admit to that!) coming out to change a wheel after a puncture (wait hours!), undercarriage damage, lost keys and windscreen cover.

Now we challenged Alamo etc about 18 months ago and they admitted windscreens are in fact covered under the CDW/EP insurance.

So to me this is the clincher
Lost keys
Not being able to change a wheel

The first is quite common, the second depends on the individual. At 64 I can still do it, some couldn't

This is great Tom - thank you.

I at least now know exactly what is covered as standard and what exactly the extra money is paying for. Think we might be tempted to give it a miss as we will be travelling with another couple and therefore if a wheel needs changing my DH would have help should he need it.

Thank you so much for your help
