Cleaning a Kanken

My daughter got a beautiful pink Kanken for school and now its black. I have washed it lightly with a damp cloth but it doesn't seem to remove the stains... anyone any ideas?

My daughter has a few of these in various colours. Her pink one. Ended up with black marks all in the bottom and in certain parts. It looked a mess so she stopped using it.
I ended up putting in the washer with a washing tablet, normal 40 wash and it came out like new!

Apparently they don't recommend this as it stops the bag from being waterproof but I suppose it's better to have a clean bag she can use again. My daughter was trying to decide between pink or green with pink handles. She's ended up keeping the green so I'm hoping it won't get too many marks on it.

You can buy something like
Nikwax to re waterproof it if you decide to wash it in the machine.

It was a last resort thing to be honest because she would not use it because it looked a mess.
It actually is still waterproof, but don’t risk it on my word lol but for my daughter she wanted a clean looking bag rather than a waterproof one.
It was not even dirty because I had wiped it over but the black got all on the bottom and on any crease. It must be the wax?
