We have GCSEs and A Levels in our house this year
DS taking A Levels finishes school on Friday (study leave) and takes his first exam next Wednesday. DS taking GCSEs is on voluntary study leave. He is able to go into school for revision sessions if he chooses but has permission to be at home. He has SEN needs and has been on extended study leave for the last 6 weeks. It's been torture trying to get him to do anything and I was expecting him to fail everything except maths. However, since they all finished last Friday, he has an amazing friend that has been revising with him on FaceTime for at least 3 hours a day - he hasn't done 3 hours work a day in the last 2 years! She is going over the syllabus with him before every exam and he is taking notes, asking questions and then asking me to question him the next day on what he's learned. He may not pass all his exams but he's intelligent and is giving it a really good go now, so I'm very proud of him. He has a place at college already so we know his next pathway. He had Biology yesterday (no idea about questions, I daren't ask), he said it went well and he used his extra time to read over it all so I'm very pleased. He's been revising this afternoon & evening for chemistry tomorrow, I just hope he'll be awake enough to answer the questions in the morning (I can hear him tossing and turning in the next room trying to get to sleep. He had his medication later today and that's not helping Good luck to all you parents and your children. I am taking each day as it comes and hoping for the best (DS taking A Levels had an unconditional off for uni that he's accepted so he doesn't have as much pressure as we initially thought, but he still wants to do well). Roll on the end of June when it's all over - although, I'll have both of them home all summer lounging around whilst I still have the younger 2 at school asking why they can't be at home too. Nice try lads! My 21yr old daughter is loving it as she has finished with school/college, loves her job and is earning good money. Her biggest dilemma today was what to pack for her girls trip to Magaluf on Friday Edited at 12:27 AM. |

It really is and will be the perfect place to do her best to get into vet school I think. She was originally interested in doing the BTec Animal Management Science course (level 3) as they said there was a guaranteed interview at the RCV in London subject to certain marks but when we investigated further, all the other vet schools need chemistry A level in addition or just 3 A levels so she has gone down the 3 A levels route. We have been to 2 open days there (and she had an induction) and looked round all the animals for the animal management course then the other time we went to the A level talk.
It's amazing the opportunities they have these days and I quite fancied the AM course myself! What subjects is your daughter planning on doing?

The teacher did an educated guess as she said no one knows the boundries but she did tell everyone their marks. For her course work DD got 73/96 which is 60% of the mark and for her exam piece she got 92/96 which is the remaining 40%. I think it works out at 84% total overall which her teacher said should come out as an 8 hopefully. She needs a 7 so fingers crossed all will be ok

DS1 is taking his GCSE’s. We’re having a tough time not only with managing his Dyspraxia but also the ofsted report came out just before the exams putting the school into special measures. That along with an external assessment company saying that for the science mocks the kids that attended all got U’s. I sort of don’t believe them as a child that didn’t turn up for the mocks was given a 5! Go figure that one.
His strongest subject is Computer Science and second paper today along with Chemistry. No study leave for him but I prefer it that way as he’ll get distracted at home. Dee Xx |

DS2 is in year 10 and has 7 exams, done 2 already. He's 14! Why does the school do maths early then the Welsh system has 3 science exams in yr 10 and 3 more in yr 11.
It's crazy. I was well over 16 when I did my exams and it's very noticeable that he's too young to sit these and do will. Revision a minimum and not at all stressed, in fact so laid back he's horizontal! Hope it improves in yr 11 |
