Is it just me, or...

Is going on the internet now more important than chatting to the people you're with?

I work in a bar/cafe and more often than not people come in and the first thing they do is take out their phones etc to go onto the internet-not look at the menus etc.
I come over and they just gaze up at me with a blank expression on their faces, annoyed that I've dared to interrupt them by trying to take their order!

Got 4 young women in right now, been in for about 30 minutes and theyve not said 1 word to each other, very sad way of life!

Would you be annoyed if they were all quietly reading a newspaper instead?

Nothing wrong with quietly enjoying company with someone else.

Yes sadly and it’s in almost every situation. Look in restaurants, so many just sit on the phones rather than talk to whoever they are with. I have seen my kids Snapchatting people thy are sat with😡Also, people are sending less cards and letters which really saddens me. I love a good pen and paper and there is something special about receiving a handwritten card or letter rather than a text or email.

What gets on my wick is in meetings at work, you are having a conversation and direct a question at someone, and say 'what, sorry didn't catch that ' because they are too busy on their phones. And this is often people who are in high positions and quite frankly should know better.

I do wish they would ban phones in work meetings, all you can ever feel is the table vibrating with the phones going off and people being distracted by them.

When you have been I invited out with a group of girls and all they do all night is Facebook , compare likes etc etc and we aren’t young 20 something’s all in our 50’s .
After going out one night and sat like a lemon all night because I’m not on Facebook I decided that’s it.
I have been left out of the social circle now ... after being pointedly told “well you aren’t on Facebook how were we supposed to let you know “ umm how about talk to me ?😠

As for meetings with a presentation and some managers just sat on their phones , not even looking at the presentation that’s just rude.

I work in catering too and see this everyday, and it's not just groups of teens that do it I've seen many parents ignoring their child to stare at a phone, or put an iPad on the table with a video playing to keep them quiet!
