Car hire from MIA

We are flying into Miami and staying 3 days at South beach, then travelling to Orlando. ( Have driven this before picked car up on South beach) but this time we aim to taxi it back to airport and pick up car from there...thinking there will be a better choice of vehicle. Never having been to the car hire depot at Miami airport , can we taxi direct to it or do we have to go through the main airport building?

The Car Rental Center is connected to the airport via the MIA mover but is actually outside of the airport, so services the whole area not just the airport. Therefore, you won’t need to go via the airport. It’s address is 3900 N.W. 25th Street.

There are car hire desks in some of the hotels

We stayed in Lowes on South Beach and picked up a car at a nearby hotel.

Might save you a journey

We have found the hotel car hire desks have very little choice and both times we tried to do this had a long wait sorting out paperwork as there was only one person on the desk. Would always go back to the airport over hiring from the hotels.

Hiya, yeah we have hired a car directly from south beach before but didn't have much choice in what was there so hoping by going to the bigger location we will have more choice.

We're just back from hiring a car at MIA and dropping off at MCO. We booked Alamo through Virgin Holidays and expected a reasonable choice at the airport, there wasn't. We arrived in the garage on a Thursday around 1800hrs after the hour in immigration, there was 5 cars in the Standard SUV row, there was a Ford Edge with 2000 on the clock, two Hyundai Santa Fe, a large Jeep desert and a pick up truck. The last two were in the wrong class but I was told I could take either, in the end I took the Ford Edge which I was quite happy with in the end.

We are doing the same in a few weeks (Standard SUV from Alamo at MIA, return to MCO via VH).

I’ve set my goal as a Ford Explorer and I will wait if I have to for them to get one. Had a Ford Edge last trip via Budget with very low mileage and loved it but it’s got to be an Explorer this time. At a push I would take an alternative 7 seater for the size if its high spec (Quite like the look and spec of the ‘full’ Santa Fe) but really want the Explorer. We only want a 7 seater as we will meet up with family there so a 6th seat would come in handy a couple of times.

I guess it’s down to timing and a bit of luck - sounds like you didn’t get the greatest choice but at least the Edge was there.
