A great review so thanks for writing it. We are doing universal next year with no Disney so VB will be our only water park. Hopefully it will have calmed down a bit by then!

You will need to catch the bus from the car park AFAIK
Although Disney parks are $20 each if you're not lucky enough to be staying onsite

Having not really looked into it yet I am a bit confused, is there no parking at VB and you have to park at universal and catch a bus?
No parking at Volcano Bay itself. You head for universal city walk car park. Once there there are two paying lanes for guests visiting Volcano Bay. You then go through a security check and queue to board one of the special Volcano buses. Day 1 was very busy but even then these queues moved quickly. As expected it's all very slick. I reckon it took us approx 30mins from parking to getting to park entrance.

Myself and DH enjoyed our afternoon visit more. Meant to add, despite park being at full capacity on our first day, by 5pm, the park was almost empty on that day too. Also when we arrived to pay parking at 3pm on day 2, There was a sign saying 'Volcano Bay full capacity' however we drove to the kiosk and got through no problem. The parking, security and bus ride just took about 15 minutes 2nd day and 2 hours later you could have had as many loungers and umbrellas as you liked! The return to car in parking lot on both days was quick and slick.

There is the usual $20 charge to park. The bus was very straightforward and very well organised. I'm not sure if you can walk, unless you pay $40 to park at Cabana Bay hotel car park and walk from there?

There is no 'rush' to get to your ride. They mention this on the video footage on the short bus ride there. Think you have around 30 minutes to use the Tapu for alerted ride. Incidentally you don't loose your place in the queue of rides are closed due to weather but it IS paused until rides re-open however many people leave at that point thus the ride time drops quickly.
