Hi, we always fly direct but this year October flights are quite steep, I’ve seen a good price but on the way back has a stop over at jfk. The time is 45 mins, would this mean just an actual plane change in that time or maybe a re-fuel? Seems awful quick for a plane change.
Thanks.

It is doable depending on what terminal you’re flying in and out of. We’ve made a connection in about half an hour with changing terminals (we had an hour but our flight was late in and then our next flight was delayed anyway), if they’re in the same terminal it’s just a matter of walking to the next gate which took us about 5 mins. You may not know until the day what terminal you will land at (we were supposed to land in 4 but as there were no gates free went to terminal 2 instead).
Depends on whether you want to take the risk. Edited at 10:13 AM. |

Depends on the carrier(s) and terminal involved, but that's pretty tight. It's below Minimum Connection Time for anything that involves a terminal change, even T2>T4 airside with Delta. Just about legitimate for a T4>T4 connection, and similar for most AA>AA connections in T8.
Although there is a higher than normal chance of a missed connection if there are any delays to the incoming flight, if the saving is good enough and you would not be too stressed by being rebooked to a later flight (subject to availability), it could be worth it. Also bear in mind that US carriers frequently change scheduled timings on flights booked this far in advance (I know many Dibbers like to book well in advance, but for the airlines this is the distant future). So, you may end up getting a longer connection without extra cost, though you can't count on it. |
