Airport security - General advice

Hi

This is a bit random but anyway! When we flew (first time in ages) in October at airport security in both directions we were the family carrying shoes, holding beltless trousers up and with about 43 trays of stuff. Other people seem to waltz through, casually pick up a phone and laptop and wander away.

How do we do this? I genuinely didn't think we had much in hand luggage (2 phones, 3 tablets and an SLR camera between 4 of us).

Is the key the huge carry on bags that people seem to carry?

Thanks!

I put all my electronics, phones, trouser belt, keys, wallet etc in my cabin case just before it goes through the scanner.
The only time I keep anything out is if they specifically say I have to ref iPad and Kindle. That's it.

I get organised at the wee tables before you enter security, taking off any thing I need to before the scanners, belt, watch, jewellery, etc and put them in my bag then get my iPhone and iPad out my bag and carry them through the queue so all I have to do is pop them in the trays. I usually have two. I wear trainers that slip off and on for quickness.

We also try not to take liquids in our hand luggage-1 less bag to get in and out of case/bag.

We get everything out before we get to the security section. Take out iPads/phones/cameras. Then jewellery, watches, caps, purses/wallets go in the backpack and then my small travel wash bag with medicine and deodorant/hand wash/antibacterial wipes also comes out. So when we're ready to go through the scanners everything goes into the tray. We also don't wear heavy shoes or belts, we make it as easy as possible!

For me it's just organisation (which doesn't come easily to me!) I try to make sure that anything I need to have out like liquids, laptop and all together so I only have to make on dive into a bag. Make sure there's nothing in pockets, don't wear a belt etc.

That said, don't worry too much about it! There's always an element of being disorganised, having to collect your things, put shoes back on etc and everyone has to do it, who cares if you take an extra minute!

Unless I'm travelling carry on only, I only bring my handbag on board so it's not about size. Just about being organised, as other posters have mentioned.

I don't wear anything that will set the scanners off, and take my coat off before hand to put in my checked luggage. So security is just pulling out my liquids bag (prepacked separately from any other cosmetics) and shoes off if required. Sometimes also a laptop, depends whether I need to take it with me or not - I don't if I know I won't get called for work.
