Really quiet. Height of the rain season so expect some very wet days but otherwise it's a lovely time to go.
On our honeymoon 25 years ago - mostly on Cocoa Beach - it rained solid every single day for most of the day. Woke up it was raining. Went to bed - it was raining. Sun came out when we got to the airport to go home. However, I remember the locals saying it was an exceptionally wet September. Subsequent visits have proved so and tbh rain has never bothered us that much. You get wet - you dry off. As it's low season, prices are generally some of the cheapest of the year and of course you get the start of Halloween in the parks. Plus the Food & Wine Festival should you be so inclined. That's our primary purpose this year.

Was there last September.
Fairly OK crowd wise (can still get crowded but nowhere near as bad as Easter/Spring break). Still needs a bit of planning with FPs etc to get the most out of the day. Weather was almost perfect - until Hurricane Irma came along! (I ended up leaving a few days early because of the hurricane.) I guess this was an exceptional scenario though. It's still a good time of the year to go though, made better by the fact that Food and Wine as well as MNSSHP are running during this time!

Was also there last September, about a week after Irma.
Went for 2 weeks, rained 3 times, each for about 10 mins! Weather was hot and humid, but manageable with water breaks! Crowds a little busier than usual, but i put thg down to Irma rescheduling a lot of trips. Loved that time of year so much, im back this September for the same 2 weeks! |

As already noted above, it's hurricane season (which peaks in September) so being a good time to go completely depends on the storm activity. Orlando is relatively low risk for the area though, it's rare for it to be in the direct path of a strong storm.
But the combination of it being hurricane season and all US schools back by September makes it one of the least crowded times of year to go. Plus you'll have the Halloween decorations up already and the Epcot F&W festival is on. So ignoring the storm possibility, it's a great time to go if you don't mind the heat. |

We usually go September. Last year was the first year we were impacted by a hurricane but we often get wet weather. That said, it’s still our preferred time due to crowd levels, heat and Food & Wine festival.
