Yes we have and enjoyed the slower pace and exploring new areas.

Sounds great. Looking forward to doing the same in the summer.

Loving the Gulf coast as much as we do and me being a keen fisherman, it is quite easy to fill a couple of weeks without any parks.

We done Disney etc last year. I am trying to convince my wife and family to go back this year and spend a week on the East Coast (Daytona) and a week on the West Coast (Clearwater). There are plenty of things to do in Florida if you're not going to the parks!

Doing our 2nd no-park trip in May/June - we did a week Miami to Key West previously. This is 17 days on a road trip visiting some old favourites and some new places - St Augustine, Mt Dora, Crystal River Anna Maria (where we stopped for lunch on a previous trip but are now staying 2 nights!). Flying into Tampa this time too Can't wait!

There is so much more to Florida than the parks. We did the parks many times when our children were younger but now go twice a year without them. The Gulf Coast is just beautiful - we have been to Naples, Fort Myers, Cape Coral and Port Charlotte several times. So relaxing! We have done Orlando without visiting the parks too - Kennedy Space Centre, Daytona Beach, Ormond Beach, Space Coast, St Augustine - all within easy reach.

Love Florida away from the parks. Did the parks wen the children were younger. people do seem to think that if you are going to Florida you must be visiting the parks. Much more relaxing to explore state parks. We love palm harbor area - close enough to small quiet beaches to pay a short visit in the morning. Lots of towns to explore.

We are thinking of doing this next year after DD finishes her GCSEs. I was looking at a fortnight in Spain but found out that a colleague's dad owns a villa in Orlando and will rent it out to us at mates rates so it will cost us hardly any more to go to Florida without the park tickets and it will be lovely just to go with the flow and visit Clearwater etc
