Any views on Fort Lauderdale airport?
Considering changing our flights...anyone flown into Fort Lauderdale recently? What’s the car hire like? Would be with avis.
Have only flown into Miami so that’s the only comparison I have!

Into Orlando out of Miami.
We want to go for longer so is cheaper to cancel lose the deposit and rebook for our dates. We’re not bothered about what airport we go to or the drive but would get 3 extra days which is what we’re after, so just after info on the car hire garage etc. Miami airport is generally rubbish so just interested to hear what FLL is like as a comparison!

I have never flown into fort Lauderdale but have flown out of there twice. A few years ago we flew from Ft Lauderdale across to Nassau and we flew home from there in October 18. Had to get on a bus across after dropping the Avis car off but it was all smooth and simple. I would definitely be happy to use Fort Lauderdale again and it will be the first route I price up when our July 2020 flights are available to book provided BA are still operating that route.

Fort Lauderdale is a nice airport - except weekends.
FLL is a hub for cruise ships and the cruises turn over on either Saturday or Sunday generally. So at the height of cruise season FLL is a little hectic on weekends. If you can avoid a Sat or Sun... go for it! |

It’s not too bad an airport, we flew in last summer with BA and you have to get a bus to the car hire centre which was ok journey time was very short and we were on the road to the hotel pretty quick. I would certainly fly in again if the price was right.

Good to hear. We are booked for Fort Lauderdale for the first time and not for weekend flights.

We flew Norwegian December 2017. Also had a hire car through Avis (picked up in Orlando and dropped off at Fort Lauderdale airport). No problem with car hire drop off. Airport is fine but quite basic facilities compared to a bigger airport such as MIA or MCO (so not many shops, bars, restaurants etc) but other than that fine.

Getting Excited

We flew into and out of FLL last week. Whilst the airport itself is OK the staff were very rude. My wife and daughter both have the hidden disability lanyards. The woman in the immigration hall shouted at them when they asked if they recognised them there. Basically you're walking so keep going there's nothing wrong with you. MCO were great last year. There's a very limited duty free shop at the airport with little or no British cigarettes and I paid $15 for a roast beef sandwich and a bottle of water which i thought was steep even for an airport. Don't get me wrong there's nothing fundamentally wrong with the airport but it's not MCO or MIA which i suppose is why BA prices to there are so good.
Overall I would use it again now i know what i should set my expectations at! |

We fly into there in 48 days!
Price was too good to pass on, ours is a Thursday flight so should aviod the cruise crush. But yes it is a bus to the Avis garage but it is on site. I’ve heard they are very frequent and quick. If you look on google maps you can technically walk between terminals. I’m going to have a look if this is possible in May. I never thought mco/Mia was that great for food/shops especially airside. We usually fill up with a nice last meal and/or takes snacks and avoid the plane food. Edited at 06:31 PM. |
