A little trip to Spain - Day 4 - October 2010
Day 4 – Tuesday 26th October
Today was our only day we had plans and we’d pre-booked tickets to the Alhambra in Grenada. We’re up at 7am and I get the first shower so it’s warm! We set off around 9.30am as its about an hours drive to Grenada. I fall asleep in the back of the car to be woken up by Dad saying ohh Julie look at that! I look at the temperature gauge in the car to find it says 9 degrees – WHAT?! It had been 24 at least for the first few days but Dad reckoned it would be ok when we got to Grenada – WRONG! Anyway… we get to Grenada and get lost! We decide to have a look in the city itself as our tickets weren’t booked until 1.30pm. We eventually find a car park which is so tight to get the car into… not a great first impression of Grenada. We exit the car which still says 9 degrees – it was lucky I picked my hoodie up on the way out of the apartment – although my legs were still freezing in cropped trousers – could’ve been worse I could be wearing shorts like Claire! Our drive to Grenada: We nip into the tourist info centre and pick up a map and called at a café for breakfast – we had tomato on toast – YUMMY! We discuss that it could be a little too cold to be visting the Alhambra today but we decided to go as we had the tickets. We also think about wandering into the centre of Grenada but we haven’t got a clue where we are! We get back to the car and manoeuvre out of the car park carefully. It turns out we were just around the corner from the city centre when we drive past to go to the Alhambra! We collected our tickets and went to look around the gardens – I found this slightly boring although I did get some photos. We head over to the palace at 1.30pm and there’s a huge queue! Eventually we begin to move and are then let in to the Palace. The architecture is AMAZING. Fingers crossed some of my photos do it justice… After our wander we go to the castle and museum which takes us up to about 4.15pm. We leave and find a restaurant down the street – this is probably the best situated place to have a restaurant but the service is rubbish and we get sandwiches with only half cooked chips! Not sure how much it cost but I know it definitely wasn’t worth it! We arrive back at the apartment at 6.15pm and me and Craig have a wander to the beach shops in La Herradura – I’ve been looking for a new pair of Havianna flip flops but haven’t had much joy (on a side note I got some for Christmas ready for Disney!). So instead we go to a bakery and buy 4 ciabattas and 4 chocolate éclairs. Back at the apartment we get ready to go for drinks at a different tapas bar. We get three rounds of drinks and first get hot dog sausages, the second we get chips and prawn pastys and the third we get mussels – this didn’t impress my dad as he’s a veggie so back at the flat we had sandwiches then went to bed.
