NYC day1

Day1 Sunday 29th January
NYC getting there, American Idiot and NY Knicks
We got up about 5am, taxi arrived on time and we where at airport for 6am, checked in and as flight wasn’t full agent gave us a seat between both of us that wouldn’t be used to give us more room, we didn’t have baggage to check as Continental have a generous hand luggage allowance, once through security we headed to the lounge, showed booking confirmation and we relaxed for a couple of hours till boarding began. Flight was straightforward left on time arrived on time, food nothing special but edible we arrived 5 mins early, headed for immigration and got taken straight away , no luggage to collect so phoned kids at home to let them know we had arrived safely then called Carmelimo to let them know we had arrived 10 mins later we are in car heading for hotel. We arrived at the Wellington about 1pm and checked in room was ready and was in the back of the hotel on 5th floor not facing the street so no view but also no street noise to complain about, room was roomy enough and clean, unpacked and then headed for theatre for 3pm showing of American Idiot at St James Theatre (Billy Joe Armstrong lead singer of Green Day was starring in show today), as it was only about 2pm we had a drink in a bar across from theatre, the theatre was pretty busy for a Sunday afternoon, the ages attending where from very young to very old, show was good and pretty graphic at parts, after show got some supplies for our room then walked down to the Garden for the NY Knicks game against Detroit Pistons, we had dinner across from the Garden in a pizza/gyro place we always eat in Jacquie had a burger and I had a chicken Gyro food was cheap and big portions 2 mega cup size juices as well all for under $20, picked up tickets our seats where the $10 tickets so up in the high seats but surrounded with season ticket holders so atmosphere is good as these fans really support the team, the game was pretty good and the Knicks where a different team from last year much better and the destroyed the Pistons in the 4th period to win the game convincingly, after the game we walked back to hotel and had a night cap in the room, should add weather wise its freezing but dry we are well wrapped up throughout our NYC stay, by midnight we are in bed and only complaint on hotel is the heater as it clunks and whistles throughout night not constantly and you do get used it
