My Aunt died at end of April, it was my birthday last week and I got a card from my Uncle, who never sent cards. Hit me like a punch in the stomach. Feel your pain. Xx

I totally understand this..we lost mum 2yrs ago, very quickly to cancer, it was a huge shock..💔.
Christmas was utterly dreadful especially around the cards situation, Mùm always bought and wrote her cards and they were beautiful, Dad still signed her name that first year and still does now but puts ( and Mum) in brackets..it’s heartbreaking..it’s the small things isn’t it. I still catch my breath that she has gone and miss her so, so much. Sending you a comforting hug..💕

I know how you feel, it is so hard losing a parent. The first time I wrote a Xmas card to just Mom broke my heart. A few months later she got really upset when I forgot their anniversary . I phoned her on the day as I hadn't forgotten but just didn't think to send a card as I thought it would be to hard for her. You really don't know what to do for the best,

I understand how hard today will have been for you.

DH who was 60 at the end of March lost his mum in February. His mum always wrote the cards.

When his birthday card came just from his dad it really hit him hard. Must have been very hard for his dad to write too.

I have a friend who years after she lost her mum, still puts the last card up that she received from both parents when they were here, together with the current ones received. I really like that idea. Always here, never forgotten.

It’s very tough, and because it’s such an unusual thing for my dad to do it just totally took me by surprise I suppose 😢

I lost my mum five years ago now, the first year of everything was so hard. Everyone's birthday that year and after dad would ask me to get the cards and write them for him, then on my birthday the card just said dad and it was so hard.
We lost dad a year ago last week and it feels like yesterday. I put up the last cards mum wrote like others, it does help.
The first hurdle of each milestone is tough, it will get easier but you will still get the caught by surprise day and it hurts more. I cry miss them and then think of some happy times we had and the love they surrounded our family with.

So sorry for your loss & so understand how it feels. After my mum died dad always signed the cards 'and mum' until he passed away himself. I still say goodnight to them both & it's been 34 years since my mum went, 16 years since dad went, sometimes it feels like only yesterday & I still miss them both so much.

When Mom died, like you my Dad had never bought cards or wrote them, my first one just came with a big X in it, sometimes he puts Dad / Grandad in them other times just "Love"

You can't believe how something so everyday is so hard.

My mum died 10 days before Christmas in 1999, and her and Dad had sent cards out from her hospital bed. We also found all the presents she had ordered for the kids. We couldn’t face wrapping them so just put them in a pillowcase with a ribbon round, luckily they were still young so didn’t mind. As you say so sad to get cards with only one name on, and unfortunately later no card when Dad died a few years later.
Be kind to yourself, you learn to grow a “scab” but it can get knocked off very easily 💔
