Old Key West Availability
Hi
Does anyone know why OKW studios do not seem to be available on the Disney website? I am looking for April next year and have been waiting for a release. Saratoga Springs have been released but not OKW? Thanks

I'm guessing that many people will have banked points so they will all need to book next year. They're usually available to book 11 months out

Thanks for the replies - bummer as we OKW but cannot afford the bigger accommodation. 😔
Might look at the DVC store as suggested - although most people seem to be hanging onto them .

It looked to me that they've only released bookings up until end of Feb arrivals for some reason. I could book a 2 night stay checking in Feb 28 but Mar 1 was showing unavailable.
DVC is definitely going to be more difficult with all the points currently in the system, but I always thought Disney held some cash rooms in a separate inventory. |

They do, 15% but I don’t know if the contract allows them to declare an emergency and change that number?

OKW has had limited availability the past few years. I think it’s a combination of DVC and maybe people having experienced it when it was cheap that now love it!

As it’s 100% DVC, the cash availability comes from three buckets.
The first is developer retained points. I think legally in Florida a developer has to retain at least 2% to have ‘skin in the game’ so to speak. Disney probably has more. The second are trade outs. So if a DVC owner uses the points for a non Disney hotel, cruise etc. These are poor value for the owner, so not as popular as you’d think. The third is what is known as breakage. Believe it or not if an owner doesn’t use the points, Disney can rent it and after a set cap, keep all the money. I’m not sure how the pandemic will impact on all of this, but if you think about it, it might. There’s a lot of points in the system now- will that lead to more or less breakage? Will owners wanting to get back to Disney, especially for the 50th be less willing to trade out? Etc.

Thanks all - it all makes sense however it does add uncertainty for availability 🤨
